New tablets, the same app. What should you check?

Identify the risk, make a decision and compare your reasoning with a senior architect’s analysis.

01 · SCENARIO · Easy

Practice-inspired educational scenario

A company replaces older tablets used to process work orders. The new devices have a newer operating system. Users will perform the same tasks and the app will still connect to the same server. The team says, “No features are changing, so we only need to buy the devices.” App compatibility, sign-in and communication have not yet been checked on the new devices.

Your question

Which three areas would you check before concluding that the replacement needs no architecture change? Explain what evidence would support a safe rollout.

Guiding questions
  • Do unchanged features prove compatibility with a new operating system?
  • What could change in sign-in, permissions or communication?
  • How could a small trial provide evidence?

Start with a choice or explain your reasoning to the mentor. You can switch modes at any time.

What is the best first step?
